These letters show how Celie learns from the people around her, even in small ways. Think of someone in your life who influences you in a positive, everyday way—a friend, relative, teacher, or teammate. Write about what you’ve learned from them and how their influence shows up in your daily life.

Prompt Response:   My friends and family influence my day all the time, and I find that to be special as I see them almost every day, yet they still can influence my day and mood, and that shouldn't be taken for granted. I learned that they are people who will stick with you forever, and loyalty plays a big part in this. Summary: I was absent today. Reflection:   You can learn a lot from many different people and that a very special thing to me as I have learned many from peers around me and family.

What did you do over fall break?

Over fall break, I was mainly at home. I didn't do much other than relax, except for the days I had to work. There were 2 events I had to work at, Porch Fest and Barbeque Fest. By the end of those events, I was very tired, and knowing that I was on break felt good, so I wouldn't have to go to school days after that. I'd say that fall break wasn't too bad as I got to meet new people and teachers from lakeside at those events. Today in class, we read a poem from William Blake about enemies. Today wasn't too bad it felt nice being back at school I guess, its better than me doing nothing at home.

Write about something that you believed as a child.

Prompt Response:   I always believed that I'd become a doctor or a teacher, and these beliefs are still alive even to this day. I know there will be times when these dreams will try to be stopped by others, but hopefully, one day I can live the dream that I wish to have later on in life. I know now that even dreams made as a kid can carry a long way even now. Summary: Today, we read another poem by Langston Hughes about dreams being deferred. Reflection:   I guess there are times you can get really regretful of things going on in life, and sometimes that is okay, as many times we live life with many regrets, but it is important that we do not let those regrets shroud our dreams for a better future.

Fences Act 1 Scenes 2 and 3

Act 1, Scene 2: How does Rose’s role as a wife and mother reflect societal expectations of women, particularly African American women, in the 1950s, and how does her sense of duty impact her relationship with Troy? Rose's role as a mother is reflected by how it is always seen as her doing all the chores around the house, and this is not just limited to her, but to all women back then.   Act 1, Scene 3: In what ways do Troy’s interaction with Corey reveals the complexities of masculinity and fatherhood in African American culture, and how does his past shape his expectations of manhood? Troy's interaction with Corey is a tough one as Troy is trying to balance his masculinity and fatherhood at the same time, which gets tough for him as he is trying to be a loving father, but also trying to teach him lessons about masculinity.

Write about a time when you were judged unfairly.

Prompt Response:  Many times, I have been judged unfairly by other people or even people close to me. One time, I was home, and my parents had told my older sibling to do a chore but I was forced to do it by my brother, as he just didn't want to do it. I was wondering if I was being forced to do it because he didn't like me, or if he's just lazy. Summary: Today, we did a CommonLit in class. Reflection:  It's just weird to me why do people get so judgmental of others.

After hearing your classmates’ storymap presentations, choose one classmate’s story that stood out to you. Write about what you liked or learned from their journey and explain why it was meaningful to you.

Prompt Response:   After hearing the storymaps from other classmates the one that stood out to me was Orlandos. I liked the many pictures he put of his childhood, many other people didnt do that and its nice that he can include the tidbits like that to enhance the performance of such a presentation. Summary: The class presented storymaps. Reflection:   Many classmates of mine really do have different stories to tell, they went through different things than I have and that is a little bit surprising to me.

Reflect on a time when you discovered a new perspective that completely changed how you viewed a person, group, or place. How did your previous “single story” shape your thoughts or actions?

Prompt Response:   At some point, I heard many stereotypes from many people to others and that really showed me that there are different stereotypes for a lot of different people, and it is real surprising because these stereoypes can change your views on people. Summary: Today, in class, we worked on a CommonLit assignment that was given to us because Mr. Rease wasn't here. Reflection:   Stereotypes are present around the world everywhere and many of these stereotypes are often hurtful but somehow some of them can be good somehow?
